2017 Holiday Challenge Success

Welcome to the Holiday Challenge!

You are receiving this email because you are registered for the Holiday Challenge. Please read this information as it covers all the things you’ll need to know to get started with the program.

Start Date
The program officially begins on November 1st. If you registered before this date, you will be confirmed into the Challenge Facebook group on October 31st. Until then, feel free to get started on your own. Everything you need to do so is explained in this post. You will also receive an email that details this information.

The first step is to go to this LINK and request to join the Facebook group “Challenge 2017.”

Please note that you will be added into the Challenge 2017 Facebook group which is part of a year-long program Coach Jenny hosts. We finish the Challenge 2017 off with The Holiday Challenge. Please make yourself at home in the group. You won’t find a nicer, more supportive group in the world. And if you love it, you can join us for the Challenge 2018!

How the Holiday Challenge Works: It’s simple, from November 1st – January 1st, post your weekly activity goal in the Private Challenge 2017 Facebook Group Page. Some like to post their goal on Sunday, others on Monday. The key is to set your goal at the beginning of the week.

All activity counts. If you run or walk, one mile of either counts for one mile in the challenge. If you cross-train (ie. cycle, strength, swim, elliptical…), 10 minutes of cross-training = 1 mile. For example, if you take a 60-minute yoga class, it counts for 6 miles. The goal is to set realistic weekly goals based on how busy your life is, so you can achieve them and maintain your momentum into the new year.

Here is an example post: My goal for the week is 20 miles. I ran 4 miles yesterday and did a strength workout for 30 minutes today for a total of 7/20 for the week ( 4 miles for running, plus 3 miles for the 30 minutes of cross-training).

The Holiday Challenge Log Sheet: For those that enjoy tracking things manually on paper like I do, you can download the Log Sheet here.

The Editable Holiday Challenge Log Sheet: For those that enjoy tracking digitally, you can download the editable version of the Log Sheet here.

Where to Post Your Miles: Post your workouts in the private Challenge 2017 Facebook Group Page. If you haven’t yet asked to join, click this link and join here. You will be confirmed into the group on October 31, 2017.

Facebook Feed: Please note, as everyone posts their activity in the group this will show up in your news feed. If you find this motivating, excellent. If you find it overwhelming, you can change the setting by doing the following:

Go to the Facebook Group Page on your computer and click on the “Notifications” box on the top right of the upper page. You can select to see All Posts, Your Friends Posts, or turn if off completely.

Facebook Group Etiquette:

Our mission is to keep this group inspiring, fun, informational and supportive. We’ve set a few ground rules for Holiday Challenge Group Etiquette in order to keep this community a pleasant one to be a part of and to retain the value the members feel it provides.

In this group PLEASE DO:
– Introduce yourself to the group.
– Post your goals and workouts.
– Support other Challengers with positive comments and likes.
– Join in the discussions if you want.
– Be Helpful. If you can help someone asking for some advice, please do so. It’s part of what makes this community so good.
– Ask for help or advice.
– Share running, walking and activity experiences and pictures.
– Have fun and create active friendships. In this group

In this group PLEASE DO NOT:
– Spam the group with promotions for events, programs, training, religious or political posts.
– Post blogs promoting personal benefit. Articles and blogs that are related to health and fitness are okay.
– Refrain from soliciting medical advice and from providing coaching advice. It is fine to share your experience, but please avoid giving advice.
– Troll the group, message group members with spam, products or personal messages or add members into your personal group or page unless you have approval with them to do so.
– Sell outside services or products.
– Solicit donations or anything else for your fundraiser, social profiles, programs.

This may sound harsh, but it’s all about keeping the flow of communication fun, easy and inspiring. We hate banning people, but spammers and chronic rule-breakers will be banned. Thank you. We look forward to connecting with you.

Weekly Emails:
You’ll receive a weekly email with details on the challenge, winners of the Elf Spirit Award and Wish List Gifts, Recipes for runners, and tips. Please make sure you add this email address into your address book so it doesn’t end up in spam and if you’re on Gmail, look for it in your promotions email folder.

The Thanksgiving and New Year’s Virtual Race: For a little extra motivation, we’ve got two Virtual Races lined up this season! Set a goal to run, walk or even cycle the distance of your choice the weekend of Thanksgiving, and at the New Year on January 1st. This can be an established race or a course in your own neck of the woods. It’s a carrot to keep you motivated and focused through the holidays and a fun way to celebrate with the group. Run or walk a 5K, 8K, 10K, or what ever goal distance you’d like. Set your race goals now, train this holiday season, and let’s run, walk and move into 2018 feeling strong, fit and ready to achieve new goals! Stay tuned for an email with a link to download the Virtual Race bib numbers.

Free Training Plans: If you are looking for a training plan to get started running or train for training for races from 5K to the ultra-marathon, you can download any of my free training plans at the following link. There are over thirty plans and there is something for everyone from walking, to run-walking to running. https://www.jennyhadfield.com/training-plans/

Share the Love: If you’ve done the Holiday Challenge in the past and love it, or if this is your first time and you already love it, please consider sharing this link with your family and friends. Our goal is to connect like-minded, active people and host fun, motivating challenges to keep us all moving forward. Please share the link with your friends and family on Facebook, Twitter or in an email. https://www.jennyhadfield.com/holiday-challenge/

Finally, it’s important to remember that the essence of the Holiday Challenge is about balance rather than about faster, stronger, higher. The key to staying active during the busy holiday season is to create a fresh plan every week based on your life schedule. That may mean more miles one week and fewer the next. Working with the flow of your life will keep you energized and motivated to keep moving through the new year. And if you have a rough week, you get to start all over again the next (without guilt).

The mission is to keep the running momentum going during the toughest time of the year. It’s all about consistency.

In holiday joy and activity,

Coach Jenny and the Holiday Challenge Elves
